These sessions are based at a variety of venues with expert tuition from Emma Louise, local glass artist.
Ever created a paper cut? Want to explore how designs can be moulded in glass? We would love to see you again at our Kiln Carving workshop for a natter, tea & cake and of course making more fabulous glass creations. We will teach you how to create your masterpiece using fibre paper and glass.
This technique is called kiln carving, which combines glass fusing and slumping to give a bas relief or sculptured effect to your glass work. It works by carving the desired image or pattern into the fibre paper with a craft knife to create a shallow ‘mould’ then stacking the glass on top of the carved pattern before firing. The glass then melts into the mould, taking on the contours of the pattern.
This 2hour session will use your paper cutting skills to design and cut out your own design, for the fused glass to be slumped onto, which will be kiln-fired after the session. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and find out more about fused glass!
We will fire your group’s creations after the workshop, ready for you to collect at a later date from our studio in Westerfield or to be posted for a small fee.
We will fire the glass over your paper designs after the workshop, ready for you to collect at a later date, or post them to you for a small fee.
Groups will be a maximum of 8 people. Session is designed for everyone aged 16+.
Please note – Workshop gift vouchers are available too.
